Westside soccer families --
Today the Westside soccer board made the difficult decision to cancel our spring outdoor recreational soccer season.
The reasons for making a cancellation decision at this time are:
  • BSD and THPRD fields are closed until at least early May
  • There is not enough time on the calendar to have a 7 week season starting in early to mid May.
  • A partial season was examined and determined to not be feasible
  • We prefer to make a clear decision now instead of leaving everyone in limbo for several more weeks.
Information on refunds will be coming out in a separate email, to be sent in the next few days.
Thanks very much for being part of the Westside soccer family. We hope to see all of you on the field again this fall.

What we know as of 3/18/2020 is:

  • Governor Brown has ordered schools closed through April 28.
  • BSD has closed schools and all school activities until further notice.
  • OYSA has cancelled competitive youth matches through April 1.
  • All THPRD facilities and permitted fields are closed through April 28.

Given the governor's message and the BSD closure, any spring season activity would not start until at least early May. We will continue to wait and see how the situation develops before making any final decisions about the spring season. The actions of the governor, BSD and THPRD will drive our decision making.

Here is the latest info on the Coronavirus situation from Westside Soccer Club as it pertains to spring recreational outdoor soccer.

What we know at this point from our partners is:

  • OYSA has cancelled competitive youth matches through April 1.
  • All THPRD facilities and permitted fields are closed March 14 through March 31.
  • BSD has closed schools and all school activities through March 31.

Since BSD and THPRD facilities are closed through March 31, we will not be able to begin practices on Monday March 30. At this point we are planning on a minimum 1 week delay to the start of the spring season.

A decision about the actual start of practices and games will made based on where things stand on April 1. The status of BSD and THPRD facilities will guide our decision at that time. This message may be modified based on any new information that comes out between now and April 1.

The health and safety of our players, parents, coaches and officials are our top priority.

I know that everyone will want to know what the refund policy will be if games are cancelled, but please hold off on that question until a decision is reached about playing games. Thank you for your patience and be well.

Westside Soccer Families -

I wanted to provide an update regarding the status of the upcoming spring recreational soccer season, scheduled to begin the week of March 30. By now, I expect everyone has seen Governor Brown's guidance on gatherings as well as BSD's cancellation of after school activities (not including athletics).

What we know at this point from our partners is:

  • OYSA has cancelled competitive youth matches through April 1.
  • THPRD is allowing outdoor activities to continue as long as the gathering is less than 250 people.
  • BSD is allowing athletic practices and games to go on, but without any spectators.

At this point, no decisions have yet been made with regards to the spring recreational soccer games. Once a determination has been made, we will be sure to communicate any changes and/or necessary precautions as required.

The good news is that our spring league games don't begin for more than 3 weeks, so we have a bit of time to make the best decision. We will continue to work with OYSA and THPRD to determine a course of action and will issue further updates as appropriate. The health and safety of our players, parents, coaches and officials are our top priority.

I know that everyone will want to know what the refund policy will be if games are cancelled, but please hold off on that question until a decision is reached about playing games. Thank you for your patience and be well.
